Wittawat Tongkeaw

Wittawat Tongkeaw (Born 1974), is an award-winning Thai artist with a Doctorate in Painting from Silpakorn University.

He is highly skilled in hyperrealism and often leaves his audience intrigued and in awe of his work. His contemporary oil paintings always carry deep meanings related to his world; one of politics and social sensitivities.

As an artist who probes the metaphysical question of truth and its representation, Wittawat believes that his search for the answer guides him to unceasingly explore, discover, and cast doubt in order to better understand himself and others. As a painter, his works are a process and expression of his personal journey of seeking the truth.

There are many thoughts which flow, compete, form our beliefs and drive our actions. Subconsciously, we are occupied and dominated by them, and his intention is to use these paintings to constantly raise awareness and questions.

Since the early 2000’s his work has been highly honoured, being a multiple-time winner of the Panasonic Contemporary Painting Competition and of the Toshiba “Brings Good Things to Life” Art Competition. His works are collected by many prestigious institutions, including the Bank of Thailand.
