Claire is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans painting, paper cuts and metal installations. She creates entomological installations of flora and fauna from imagined locations, taking inspiration from nature and the environment. Her birds, insects and flowers transcend borders and pass freely between countries with scant regard for rules of immigration or the effects of biodiversity. These delicate yet dynamic forms transcend borders, evoking nature’s freedom and resilience — a poetic response to our ever-shifting world. These works are created using vintage maps and atlases.
Hummingbirds are a subject in her work for their beauty, which is enhanced by the bright and colourful geological maps she uses to create them. She is captivated by their frenetic energy, seeking to capture the fierce energy they embody. Originally from Lincolnshire, Claire has been living and working in London for over 30 years.
Her work has been exhibited widely in galleries around the world including: Manchester Art Gallery, UK; London Transport Museum,UK; Diehl Gallery, Jackson Hole, Wyoming, USA; TAG Fine Arts, London, UK; Flow Gallery, London, UK; CODA, Apeldorn, The Netherlands; Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, London, UK; Gallery S Bensimon, Paris France.
